Helping Clients with Driver’s License Reinstatements in Kane County
If you have had your driver’s license suspended or revoked due to a DUI or serious traffic violation, you must go through a formal process to have it reinstated. In the meantime, driving your vehicle may be a necessity for medical appointments or to get you to and from work. Do not risk driving with a suspended or revoked license; it is a Class A misdemeanor with very stiff penalties that can even include jail time. Even if you are not able to have your license reinstated right away, you may be able to secure a restricted driving permit (RDP) that allows you to drive during certain parts of the day.
At The Law Office of Brian J. Mirandola, one of my areas of focus is helping Illinois drivers with suspended or revoked licenses get them reinstated as soon as possible so they can move forward with their lives. I have practiced criminal law in the Chicagoland area for the past 20 years, seven of them as assistant Kane County prosecutor. As a Kane County driver’s license reinstatement lawyer, I have an in-depth understanding of the Illinois processes and what it will take to obtain a favorable result at your hearing. I do not promise a certain result; no honest attorney can. What I do is give you experienced and personalized guidance to have you as prepared as possible for your hearing so we can get you back behind the wheel in short order.
The Illinois Driver’s License Reinstatement Process
To get your license back after a suspension, the first step is to request an informal hearing with an Illinois Secretary of State (SOS) hearing officer. An informal hearing can be requested for minor traffic violations, a first time DUI, or an incident where there were no fatalities involved. More serious traffic offenses, multiple or felony DUIs, and incidents involving one or more fatalities will require a formal hearing. There are three possible outcomes of your hearing:
- Your license is fully reinstated;
- Your reinstatement request is denied; or
- You are granted a restricted driving permit.
The outcome of the hearing will depend on the circumstances of your case and how well prepared you are to answer the questions asked by the SOS officer. There may be upwards of 100 questions, and if you are not ready to give good answers, the chances of a favorable outcome are reduced. This is where the help of qualified legal counsel can make a big difference.
Driver’s license reinstatement hearings can be very stressful, but proper preparation and knowing what to expect helps calm your nerves and enhances your chances of success. I have helped numerous clients get their licenses back or obtain a restricted driving permit. I found Brian Mirandola by luck the first time I needed representation for a couple of traffic citations. I was impressed by the genuine high regard both the prosecutors as well as the judge had for him. The outcome in that case exceeded my expectations. The second time I worked with Brian I needed representation on a potential drivers license revocable offense. End result...seat belt violation. Brian is a nice guy and he charged me fairly. If you're going to spend the money on legal representation, get someone who knows what they are doing. I personally can't imagine calling anyone else if I were to have another legal issue.

I was very satisfied with the service I received from Brian Mirandola as my attorney.
I had been convicted of a DUI years ago and already been turned down for driving relief. He helped me make sure I had all my documents together. He help me understand the type of question that may be asked so I would be a lot more comfortable at the formal hearing. I have been granted driving privileges! I highly recommend Brian Mirandola as an attorney!- - Sincerely Michael Koonce
